MCSDI Statement on the third Anniversary of Mahsa Amini's Murder

Dear friends, we have gathered here to commemorate the third anniversary of “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, which began after the murder of Mahsa Amini at the hands of Islamic regime’s so-called morality police, and the murder of hundreds of protesters during uprising.

Over the past three years, the brutal suppression of any type of dissent has continued with thousands more arrested, tortured and executed by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Among these victims are at least 12 people who were executed for taking part in the 2002 protests, the latest of whom was Mehran Bahramian, executed just last week.

The recent war with Israel provided the Iranian regime with a pretext to further expand its wave of repression and cruelty. Amnesty International, in its September 3, 2025 report stated: “Iranian authorities are waging a terrifying crackdown under the guise of national security in the aftermath of the June 2025 hostilities with Israel”. And that “Since June 13th, the Iranian authorities have arrested over 20,000 people, including dissidents, human rights defenders, journalists, social media users, families of victims unlawfully killed in nationwide protests and foreign nationals. Others targeted include Afghans, members of the Baluchi and Kurdish ethnic minorities, and members of the Baha’i, Christian and Jewish religious minorities.”

During this same time, the number of executions in Iran has dramatically increased and remains among the highest in the world. The spokesperson of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in an August 29, 2025 statement reported: “Iranian authorities have executed at least 841 people since the beginning of the year and up until 28 August 2025”. Currently there are at least 11 individuals facing imminent execution, and dozens more remain on death row.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, faced with the threat of a rising population and increasing international pressure, is more than ever doomed to be thrown into the dustpan of history. But like many past dictatorial regimes in their final hours, it leans on its forces of darkness, grasping at all the barbaric tools of repression and intimidation to prolong its evil existence.

So today, as we commemorate Mahsa Amini and the hundreds of demonstrators who were murdered during the 2022 protests, we raise awareness among freedom-loving people and all human rights advocates, and urge them to bring attention to the plight of thousands of political prisoners, and the dozens currently facing death sentences in Iran.

The cause of freedom and justice remains a beacon of light that binds us all together and we will not stop supporting the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom, a just society and democratic values.
