The third anniversary of Mahsa Amini's murder and the start of Iran uprising was commemorated in Minneapolis on September 14, 2025.

The event started with a message from MCSDI (the text of the message can be found in the statements section of this site). The program continued by reading messages of support from Congresswoman Betty McCollum and The Advocates by Human Rigths.

In her message, Congreswoman Betty McCollum, representing the 4th district of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives, wrote: "On September 16, 2022, Ms. Amini died in the hands of the Iranian regime's morality police, an act that has sparked a global outcry. Today her death continues to serve as a reminder of the need for freedom, hope and liberty for women and girls around the world." She concluded her message by stating: "We must continue in solidarity to work for dignity, freedom, equality, and justice for women and girls here at home and abroad".

The Advocates for Human Rights, in their message declared: "The Advocates for Human Rights stands in solidarity with the courageous human rights defenders in Iran, as well as Iranians throughout the world, who are paving the way for a new day in Iran when authorities bend to the will of the Iranian people and finally embrace human rights and respect for the rule of law. We join you in observance of Mahsa Day, the third anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s murder and the start of the uprising in Iran." and that "In the words of the UN Secretary-General, in a report he will present to the UN Human Rights Committee on Thursday, “the death penalty cannot be reconciled with full respect for the right to life.” We honor Mahsa’s legacy by joining together today to condemn the Iranian authorities’ disregard for the right to life and to take collective action to ensure that Iran, to borrow a phrase from then-Minneapolis Mayor Hubert H. Humphrey in 1948, “walk[s] forthrightly into the bright sunshine of human rights.”

The program continued with speeches by members of the community.
